If you own a Toyota Hybrid vehicle there’s a good chance you care deeply about your environmental impact. You’ll be happy to hear that when a hybrid HV battery is properly recycled, in excess of 98 percent of the battery materials are diverted from landfill, and all toxic elements are removed.

  • What is the diversion rate from landfill for hybrid HV batteries?

    The diversion rate from landfill is in excess of 98%, with all toxic elements diverted from landfill for hybrid HV batteries.

  • If a hybrid HV battery is damaged, can it be recovered and recycled?

    Yes, in the event of a hybrid HV battery being damaged, an EPA approved sealed container is used to transport the hybrid HV battery to the recycler. Contact Taree Toyota to arrange damaged hybrid HV battery collection

  • Who pays for the recovery and recycling of the hybrid HV batteries?

    Toyota Motor Corporation Australia pays for the recovery (transport) and recycling of the hybrid HV battery once the hybrid HV battery is delivered to a Toyota dealer.

  • Can all Toyota dealers recover hybrid HV batteries?

    Yes, Toyota dealers can recover Toyota hybrid HV batteries for recycling. There are over 275 Toyota dealers in Australia.

  • Can anyone remove the hybrid HV battery from a hybrid vehicle?

    It is recommended that only trained Toyota Hybrid technicians remove the hybrid HV battery.

  • If a hybrid HV battery falls under warranty does the customer get a $100 cash rebate?

    No, as the hybrid HV battery will be replaced at no cost to the customer.

  • Why does Toyota Australia provide a rebate on hybrid HV batteries?

    Hybrid technology is an important part of Toyota's global strategy for more sustainable transport. Toyota launched this initiative as a means of promoting and reinforcing recycling in response to global resource limitations.

  • How long does a hybrid HV battery last?

    The life of a Hybrid vehicle and a Hybrid HV battery will vary depending on usage and environmental factors. For Hybrid vehicles bought before 1 January 2019, we’ll cover your Hybrid battery[W9] for eight years or 160,000km, whichever comes first. For Hybrid vehicles bought after 1 January 2019, we’ll cover your Hybrid battery[W1] for up to 10 years and unlimited kilometres, provided you undertake your annual inspection as part of routine maintenance according to the vehicle logbook.

  • What type of rebate is there for hybrid HV batteries?

    There is a $100 cash rebate for hybrid HV batteries which are no longer functional or exchange discount of $500 off the purchase of a replacement hybrid HV battery.

  • How and when do customers get a $100 cash rebate or a $500 discount?

    The $100 cash rebate will be provided when the customer returns the hybrid HV battery to a Toyota dealer Service Department. The $500 discount is deducted from the purchase price when the replacement hybrid HV battery is purchased and the original hybrid HV battery is provided at the point of sale.

  • Can customers get the $100 cash rebate and $500 discount in the one transaction?

    No. The $100 cash rebate only applies when a customer surrenders a hybrid HV battery at a Toyota dealer Service Department. The $500 discount only applies when a customer purchases a new hybrid HV battery and at the same time, the original hybrid HV battery is surrendered.

  • Can customers get a rebate on a Toyota hybrid HV battery at a Lexus dealership or on a Lexus hybrid HV battery at a Toyota dealership?

    No. To be eligible for a rebate, customers must take the Toyota hybrid HV battery to a Toyota dealership; or the Lexus hybrid HV battery to a Lexus dealership.

  • How is Toyota Australia communicating the Hybrid HV Battery Recycling Program?

    Toyota Australia is communicating the Hybrid HV Battery Recycling Program to the industries such as independent workshops, panel shops and auto recyclers via Industry Associations, trade publications and industry websites. In addition, all 2012 onwards Toyota Hybrid models have a label fitted to or near the hybrid HV battery regarding recycling and rebate information.

  • Where can I find more information on Toyota Australia’s other environmental initiatives?

    Toyota Australia publishes an annual sustainability report which highlights its commitment to improving all areas of environmental performance across the vehicle lifecycle. This can be found in our Sustainability Report.
